Living with FND Deserves Thoughtful Care

Functional Neurological Disorder is complex, misunderstood, and profoundly personal. We won't pretend to have all the answers, but we will show up prepared, curious, and fully committed to helping you move better and live with greater independence.

Individualized Programs 1-on-1 At-Home Care Honest Communication Patient-Led Pacing

What You Can Expect From Us

1

A program built around you. No two FND presentations are alike. We start from scratch with your specific symptoms, goals, and daily life.

2

Honesty over false confidence. We are not FND specialists. We will be transparent, keep learning, and tell you when something isn't working.

3

A focus on what matters most. Your independence. Your mobility. Your ability to do the things that matter in your everyday life.

We Understand FND Is Not Simple

Functional Neurological Disorder involves real, disabling symptoms like weakness, tremor, gait disturbances, fatigue, sensory changes, and more that arise from how the nervous system is functioning, not from structural damage. The symptoms are genuine, not imagined, and often highly variable day to day.

FND has historically been misunderstood in medicine. Many patients have been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told nothing can be done. We reject that framing. Where there is function, there is the potential for change.

We bring an informed, respectful approach to every session. We have studied the neuroscience, read the research, and we continue to do so. We will never pretend this is easy or that we have a guaranteed protocol, but we will never stop trying to find what works for you.

Common FND symptoms we work with:

  • Functional weakness or paralysis affecting limbs or gait
  • Tremor, jerks, or involuntary movements
  • Difficulty walking or frequent falls
  • Balance problems and dizziness
  • Fatigue and activity intolerance
  • Sensory disturbances and coordination challenges
  • Symptom fluctuation and unpredictable flares

This list is not exhaustive. Every patient presents differently.

We Will Listen to Every Patient

FND requires a different kind of honesty from a physical therapist. Here is how we show up for you.

01

We Individualize Everything

There is no one-size-fits-all protocol for FND. Your evaluation, your plan, your progressions, and your pacing are built around your body, your symptoms, and your goals, not a template. We observe what helps, adjust what doesn't, and iterate constantly.

02

We Do Not Claim to Be Experts

FND is a rapidly evolving field. We have dedicated time to studying it, but we will not pretend to have answers we don't have. We will communicate with your neurologist and care team, and we will always tell you when we need to reconsider an approach.

03

We Focus on Your Independence

Symptom elimination may not always be the right goal. Instead, we focus on what genuinely improves your daily life: safer mobility, greater confidence in movement, reduced fall risk, and the ability to do more of what matters to you.

Movement Goals We Pursue Together

Our sessions are built around functional, meaningful goals. Progress may be gradual, but every improvement in daily independence counts.

Mobility

Walking & Gait Training

Strategies to improve walking quality, reduce compensatory patterns, and build confidence on different surfaces and in different environments.

Safety

Fall Prevention & Balance

Balance challenges are common in FND. We work on steadier movement, better reactions, and reducing fall risk at home and in the community.

Strength

Functional Strength & Endurance

Building capacity for daily activities through graded, tolerable movement while respecting your symptom fluctuations along the way.

Transfers

Sit-to-Stand & Bed Mobility

Improving the transitions that affect independence most: getting up safely, moving in bed, and navigating stairs with confidence.

Pacing

Activity Tolerance & Pacing

Many FND patients experience boom-bust cycles. We help you find a sustainable rhythm that builds capacity without triggering setbacks.

Daily Life

Home & Community Participation

Your goals may be cooking, getting to the mailbox, or attending a family event. We orient the plan around the life you want to live.

How We Build Your Program

We don't have a fixed protocol. We have a framework for listening, observing, and responding to what you show us.

1

Start with a Conversation

Tell us about your symptoms, your history, what's been tried before, and what matters most to you. We listen before we plan.

2

At-Home Evaluation

We assess your movement, balance, and function in your real home environment, where daily challenges actually happen.

3

A Personalized Starting Point

We build a program based on what we find, not on a template. The focus is on what is safe, tolerable, and meaningful for you today.

4

Adjust, Progress, Repeat

FND symptoms change. We change with them. Each visit we reassess, recalibrate, and keep moving toward your goals.

The STRIVE Difference for FND Patients

Many patients with FND have had discouraging experiences with healthcare. We are trying to do something different.

The STRIVE Approach

  • Program built individually for your presentation
  • Transparent about what we know and don't know
  • Goals tied to your daily function and independence
  • 1-on-1 attention at every visit, no shared gym time
  • At-home evaluation in your real environment
  • Pacing respected, no "push through it" mentality
  • Ongoing collaboration with your medical team

Common Experiences Elsewhere

  • Generic exercise protocol applied to everyone
  • Overconfident claims about curing or fixing FND
  • Focus on symptoms rather than meaningful function
  • Busy clinic settings with divided therapist attention
  • Assessment only in clinic, not in the home environment
  • Pressure to perform that escalates symptoms
  • Siloed care without communication across providers
